
Christy R. Mistr is a tax attorney and CPA who assists clients in all forms of retirement, tax, financial planning, investment, and estate planning issues. Christy also does a significant amount of individual and small business cash flow, accounting, and budgeting work. Immediately prior to forming Dominion Financial Consultants, Christy served as tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. During her time with the Committee, Christy analyzed and developed corporate and individual federal income tax proposals and prepared the Chairman for Committee meetings on developing tax legislation and oversight of the Internal Revenue Service.

In private practice, Christy associated as a tax attorney with the law firms of McKee Nelson, LLP, in Washington, D.C. and McGuire, Woods, Battle and Boothe, LLP, in Richmond, Virginia. In her tax practice, Christy worked closely with small businesses to develop and implement federal tax strategies, including those related to estate planning. She also counseled large multi-national clients on international joint ventures and negotiated the terms of related agreements. Christy has significant tax litigation experience and has represented clients before IRS Appeals, the U.S. Tax Court, and U.S. Courts of Appeal. As a CPA, Christy worked as an independent auditor for Ernst & Young, LLP, prior to law school.
Christy received her law degree from the University of Virginia, where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Virginia Tax Review and a Dillard Fellow, Legal Research and Writing Teaching Assistant. She also was honored to receive the Edwin S. Cohen Tax Scholarship. Christy is admitted to practice in Virginia and in the District of Columbia and is an active member of the tax sections of the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and the D.C. Bar Association. Christy earned her B.S.B.A. (Accounting), cum laude, from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond.
Christy participates in collaborative mediation practice as an active member of the Collaborative Law Professionals of the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Christy serves on the boards of A Place 4 Me and The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, as well as the Business School Advisory Board of Shenandoah University. Christy previously chaired the board of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Free Dental Clinic.
